Tanana K's 13 to Gain Split With Angels

Player of the Day
Frank Tanana
Game Two:  California Angels 4, Baltimore Orioles 1
WP: Frank Tanana (4-1, 1.64 ERA) / LP: Wayne Garland (2-2, 2.28 ERA)

It is not very often that Baltimore Orioles starter Jim Palmer gets shown up, but one could argue that California Angels pitcher Frank Tanana did just that as he struck out 13 Orioles hitters in the second game of an afternoon doubleheader en route to getting his fourth win of the season.  This coming mere hours after Palmer shuts down the California offense on six hits and seven strikeouts in a victory in game one.

Quote(s) of the Day
"Wait, what?  I throw a six-hit shutout while he gives up a run while striking out 13 and you guys are crowding around HIS locker?  C'mon, the Orioles are leading the East right now and you want to your time on a last place California team?  Our team was probably a little tired from the 12 runs we pounded on them in the first game." - Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jim Palmer.

"Listen, I have no ill will toward Jim Palmer whatsoever.  He is an outstanding pitcher and hairy underwear model.  He pitched a great game, just like I think I did.  He has to remember that there was two games today.  It's not like he lost or come up short - like he does in his underwear ads.  Not that he looks bad, but I guess they need models for the small sizes too." - California Angels pitcher Frank Tanana.
