Bostock Leads Hit Parade Against Boston

Player of the Day
Lyman Bostock
Minnesota Twins 14, Boston Red Sox 7
WP: Jim Hughes (1-0, 5.40 ERA) / LP: Rick Wise (1-2, 5.06 ERA)

There is a very good reason that Minnesota leads Major League Baseball in batting average, runs scored and on-base percentage.  Oh, and they are second in homers too.  They are pretty damn good.  Led by Lyman Bostock, the Twins pounded out 23 hits against Boston today.

Injuries:
SP Mike Cuellar (1-0, 1.04 ERA) suffered a sprained ankle while pitching.
He is expected to miss about 2-3 weeks and is placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Purchased the contract of RF Jim Northrup (Did Not Play - AAA) from Triple A Rochester.
Baltimore has decided to go with 10 pitchers and 15 position players.  Doyle Alexander will take over the 5th spot in the rotation.

RF Oscar Gamble (.222, 1 HR, 4 RBI) experienced back tightness during today's game.
He is expected to miss about 2 weeks and is placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Recalled RF Lou Pinella (.364, 3 HR, 9 RBI - AAA) from Triple A Syracuse.
Lou is back and in the starting lineup in RF with a very hot bat.

3B Bob Bailey (.182, 11 AB) suffered a strained oblique during a collision at third base.
He is expected to miss about 3 weeks and is placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Purchased the contract of 2B Doug Flynn (.231, 3 RBI, 13 AB - AAA) from Triple A Indianapolis.
Flynn will be the man at 2B, SS or 3B if any of those guys need a break.

RF Henry Cruz (.417, 4 RBI) suffered a sore thumb while sliding into second base.
This is a day-to-day injury expected to last 1 day.
Ine could only imagine the ridicule Cruz would face if he actually missed time for this..

Extensions:
Signed C Bill Plummer (.438, 1 RBI) to a 1-year contract extension worth a total of $53,480.
He will take a 43.71% pay cut (current wage $95,000).
