Injuries:

2B Rennie Stennett (.357) was diagnosed with a sore elbow.
He will miss 2 weeks and is placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Purchased the contract of 2B Tommy Helms (.333, 3 RBI - AAA) from Triple A Charleston
Helms will get the start at 2B, with Ed Kirkpatrick doing the backup singer role.

Extensions:
Signed SP Andy Hassler (0-1, 5.14 ERA, 7 IP) to a 1-year contract extension worth a total of $95,000.
He will also receive $21,000 Cy Young Award incentive.
He will receive a 26.3% base raise next season (current wage $70,000 + $31,000 for Cy Young Award).

Transactions:
DH Tony Olivia (Did Not Play) was designated for assignment and placed on waivers (from active).
Recalled SS Danny Thompson (.207, 3 RBI - AAA) from Triple A Tacoma.
It appears the end may be near for the 37-year old Olivia.  Thompson will backup everywhere in the infield.

Optioned SS Roger Metzger (.000, 5 AB) to Triple A Memphis.
Recalled 2B Ken Boswell (.273, 1 RBI, 11 AB - AAA) from Triple A Memphis.
Boswell will backup Enos Cabell at 3B while trying to convince his teammates to call him "The Boz".

Optioned 3B Rob Belloir (.000, 3 AB) to Triple A Richmond.
Recalled RF Cito Gaston (.385, 1 HR, 2 RBI - AAA) from Triple A Richmond.
Gaston will be used to backup the outfield on the third Tuesday of each month - IF there is a left-handed pitcher.
