Kravec And The Sox Beat The Bird

Player of the Day
Ken Kravec
Chicago White Sox 2, Detroit Tigers 0
WP: Ken Kravec (1-2, 3.60 ERA) / LP: Mark Fidrych (2-3, 4.40 ERA)

Chicago used RBI singles from Bucky Dent and Ralph Garr along with superb pitching from starter Ken Kravec to guide the White Sox past Detroit, 2-0.  Kravec had his best game so far this season, shutting the Tigers down on just four hits while striking out six in gaining his first win of the season.

With three singles, Jorge Orta runs his hitting streak to 17 games - also gaining multiple hits in the last five.  Orta is a beast, hitting .594 (19 for 32) over his last eight games.

Teammate Carlos May however is not as fortunate, getting just two hits in his last 26 at bats (.077),

Quote(s) of the Day
"Good things come in time.  You can never lose faith.  Sure, you may question it.  You may doubt it at times.  You may want to clench you hands around its neck and slowly suffocate the life out of it until there is nothing but a whisper - but you can never lose faith." - Chicago White Sox pitcher Ken Kravec.

"The ball and me were on the same page tonight.  Unfortunately, it wasn't a big fan of the Tigers." - Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark Fidrych.

"Crap." - fatigued New York pitcher Jerry Koosman.
